Hi Laura,
A Mass intention applies the infinite merits of Christ and the fruits of His Sacrifice
on the Cross to the intention, whereas a prayer petition is simply a believer asking
for a favor.
A Mass is much more powerful because the power of the Blood of Christ
is without limit.
Christ pleased the Father perfectly in His Sacrifice.
We, on the other hand, have spotty records of this. :-)
There is of course no strict guarantee that if you have a Mass said for a specific petition you will get your petition granted. We believe by faith though that
it's a more fervent and efficacious way to obtain a petition.
