Hi, guys —

  • Where can I find information on the saints, martyrs, and others listed in Eucharistic Prayer 1?
  • Why were they included?

With many having the same name (James, John, etc.) it is hard to know which ones are being mentioned.

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks,

Justin

  { Where can I find information on the saints, martyrs, and the others listed in Eucharistic Prayer I? }

Mary Ann replied:

Justin —

First comes Mary, then the Apostles:

Then come the popes after Peter:

After that come early martyrs:

Mary Ann

Hi, Justin —

More detailed information about the list of saints that Mary Ann listed in the Eucharistic Prayer 1 can be found on the New Advent web site here:

The New Advent web site

You can search for them alphabetically, right below the New Advent logo at the top of this home page.

You said:

I'm only guessing here, but I would say they were included for their willingness to die for the Catholic faith [and/or] were renowned for their holiness and learnedness. Because he is the overseer of the Liturgy of the Mass, the Pope decides who makes it in this list.

Hope this helps,

Mike
