Hi, guys —
- Exactly when was the switch from Latin
to the vernacular made in the Church?
- Was it uniform throughout the world, in
the U.S., or up to each local bishop?
We need to know what language would have been
used in 1963 for a book we're writing.

Hi, Jill —
Catholic Culture has an article on this; they said it was November 29, 1964. I have more information about the history of the liturgy on
the Mass
and Adoration tab.
I've broken the history
of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
into three sections:
- (Pre-Tridentine) — Mass
celebrated before the Council
of Trent
- (Tridentine) — Mass celebrated
before Vatican Council II
- (Mass of Pope Paul VI) — the
Novus Ordo or Ordo Mass most people
attend today in the United States.

The switch was uniform throughout
the Church.
Hope this helps,
Mike

In 1963, Latin was still the rule.
