Hi, guys —
My friend recently became very ill. I asked my priest
to pray for him at Mass.
My mother told me it was a (HIPAA) (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) violation and was illegal
for a priest to offer a Mass for such a person by saying
the person's name.
I've never heard of such a thing. I understand HIPPA, but I do not see a problem with simply
saying,
"Please pray for [name of a sick friend] who
is ill." during Mass.
Thank you,
Joelle
