John Miller wrote:

Father,

I may have committed a sacrilege. I received Holy Communion prior to confessing my sin of drunkenness.

Please advise me appropriately.

John

  { What advice do you have if I committed a sacrilege in receiving Communion before Confession? }

Paul replied:

Hello, John —

None of us here priests, so using Father wouldn't be appropriate.

I would suggest you make a sincere Act of Contrition for any guilt you may have.

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee.

I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of Heaven, and the pains of Hell; but most of all because I have offened Thee, my God, Who are all good and deserving of all my love.

I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life.

Amen.

Then, as soon as you can, take anything you feel guilty about to the sacrament of Confession.

Be open and honest with the priest and God will forgive you.

Paul
