Dear Jennifer,
It seems there may be sacrilege occurring
on two counts here. If your (ex)husband
married you sacramentally in the
Catholic Church and has not received
an annulment, your marriage to him
is still assumed to be valid. Therefore
his presumed objective adultery is
the matter of mortal sin and his
- receiving Holy Communion without
Confession, and
- alteration of his life
would be a sacrilege.
She, as an Episcopalian, cannot receive
Holy Communion in the Catholic Church
because:
- Communion signifies that there
is belief in the Real Presence
of Christ in the sacred Communion
Host, and
- there is no division (of belief)
in the Catholic faith among the
believers receiving.
Therefore, a non-Catholic cannot
receive in a Catholic Church for
at least one of those two reasons.
Peace,
Paul
